I couldn’t even finish this. It just went on forever. And ever. And everrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
And the sex scenes were so fucking cringey I couldn’t bear it. Stop calling it “a button.” Gross.

It was entertaining but also annoying because the book is full of grammatical errors (and long-winded descriptions) that distract from the story. Miranda also needs to do better at describing her POC characters. She uses the same descriptions for all of them. She missed the ball on describing Torryn's hair (they should have been described as locs would be) and his hands (she said his palms were dark brown). I say this as a BIPoC...
Anywho, I preferred Kirsi's POV to Raven's. Raven is agitating much of the time, and her and Bastian's dialog was so dramatic and overdone. I struggled to get through the first book and only finished this one because of Kir's POV.

Overall, I enjoyed this series, but the second book didn’t hold up to the first. It was slow and the I found the plot confusing. I think the pain and grief was well expressed in the first part and I found myself crying for Kirsi and Raven. Also Nym’s love for Kirsi in “wish” form was beautiful. . One of the plot twists I found hugely disappointing and is the main reason I struggled. In the first book, I loved Grey way more than Bastian and when it was learned they were the same person, I felt Grey died. I really hoped for a love triangle between them, or a second love plot. At minimum, Raven should have had conflicting feelings about Grey until the reveal. Not important but Raven barely mourned her parents’ deaths. So strange.
I absolutely loved book 1, and unfortunately, book 2 just didn't seem to live up to it. The 2nd POV took away from the overall story i loved in book 1 and honestly felt unnecessary. Also, the characters didn't feel like they grew much, or at all in this one.
Ravens attitude of just doing whatever she wanted despite others' opinions got to be annoying. She continued to withhold information in this, despite being so upset with others for doing it to her previously. It just didn't feel synced, and i struggled to get through it.

I can't believe the discrepancy between the first book and this one. This one took all the bad parts of the first one, and got rid of all the good parts. It also sort of turned into something else entirely. Instead of a romantasy about magical trials and falling for the dark king, it was an all over the place romp around the land with found family aspects. Though I liked the characters, the found family stuff just wasn't believable. There's no way they would have such close bonds after knowing each other for a week. And trying to find the grimoires and stop Andorra was just an exercise in misery because it kept jumping around too quickly and introduced way too many places and names. Also the entire plot with Eden and Andorra, Raven and Bastien's mother, and the grimoires just got too convoluted and I stopped trying to follow it, so the stakes didn't feel real. Plus I like Kirsi as a character, but having half the book in her POV was a real detriment, I didn't enjoy her POVs at all. Overall a great shame considering the potential set up in the first one.
