Finished but almost DNFd. Felt like a chore to read and moved very slow. I thought I would like the dual POV but the author made it so drawn out

There was so much that happened in this book! Book 1 left so many things unresolved and absolutely broke my heart!!! This book answered all the questions and the way it healed my heart was amazing! Chapter 11…if you’ve read it, you know, I literally stopped in my tracks when I got to that part! I almost cheered audibly, lol. I loved how this story ended, highly recommend
This was so much better than book one! I was shocked and sad and hurt and happy all in one chapter for multiple chapters. I didn’t know what to expect and every time I think I know whats happening a plot twist hits that make me reconsider! If you think the trials in book 1 was good wait until the actual battles and war in book two start hitting! I finished this entire book in one sitting and I wish it was longer cause it was too good. It’s the same slow burn as book 1 but it’s well worth it.
2.5. Loved first book but never got invested into this one. Was a struggle to finish. I think because it got to big in terms of plot and characters so I stopped being invested. I did enjoy some of the twists though.

There was a lot of ground to cover in this sequel, and boy did it attempt to get it all in there, even to a fault. Raven, Grey, and Kirsi are stranded in the human lands and must rely on a new ragtag team of shifters and witch to get home and stop the coven leaders before they completely wreck the world in their quest for more power. Plots are unveiled, even more than were hinted at in the first book, betrayals revealed, bloodlines and relationships questioned.
We got a new POV in this book, Kirsi’s, and I’m not sure I liked the change. I don’t normally mind dual or even multiple POVs, but each character has to have a distinct voice, and I’m not sure these characters did. I would find myself completely forgetting whose POV I was in and having to scroll back to the chapter heading to find out. That should never be a problem in a book like this. This was my biggest issue with the book by far. There also was just a severe imbalance in these POVs, leading to Raven feeling more like a side character in her own book.
The characters were all still enjoyable, particularly the new additions of Tor and Atty, but our main trio continued to feel a little flat to me for a reason I can’t entirely name. It was only made more apparent as I said before by the dual POVs. The two female MCs read exactly like the same character because they lack any defining personality characteristics in their narration. It made all the emotional moments just less so for me. The found family element almost made up for this, it was so well done—just not quite enough.
I did enjoy the plot, some of the twists I saw coming and some I really didn’t. I liked the intrigue and build-up from the first book to find out just why Raven is unmarked, why the coven leaders want the Grimoires and why separating the Omnia book even happened, etc. It was really well thought out and easy to follow as the characters learned more and more. However, the pacing in a lot of these moments felt off. Some scenes were just so cutthroat action-packed, or extremely high tension, and then we’d just randomly have a spicy moment in the same scene? It was all just a bit odd.
Overall, I did enjoy this book, just not as much as the first one. The problems book 1 had seemed to be exacerbated here, though what book 1 did well was likewise done even better here as well. I’ve heard really good things about the final novella, so I’ll be checking that out.

I can say for certain that I liked book one a lot more than book two. There are many reasons for this, above all I think this series could've been stronger had it this book been split into two rather than one. There was a lot of loose ends to tie up. How does an ending feel rushed and slow at the same time? I don't know how, but this book achieves just that. The dreaded FMC losing her powers at the end happened, it made me roll my eyes. She does technically get it back, but only as a gift from the King in the form of a necklace. It was a kind gesture, I hate to take away from it. But I think it was such an unnecessary addition to the story. The point is that everyone loses something, I just don't understand why only she lost her powers and not the King as well.
Also! I hated this new "little witch" nickname everyone seemed to suddenly call Raven. Raven is undoubtedly the most powerful witch in the kingdom, why mock her with such a demeaning name? She's also grown as fuck; it's kind of weird to call her little. She might physically be little, but that has more to do with the life of starvation she's lived with rather than her natural physique. It was annoying thing I just had to mention.
While this book specifically wasn't my favorite, I did enjoy the series overall. I think there's something for everyone: wlw, found family, enemies to lovers, deadly competition with incredibly high stakes, a really freaking cool magic system (especially the shifters and spirit blessed witches!), political strife amongst the covens, and a great cast of characters. Not sure if I will read the holiday novella or if I will read more from this author though.
