Congo

Michael Crichton

3.43 AVERAGE

Crichton perfected a formula for thrilling books: Take an ordinary person and thrust them into highly dangerous and extraordinary circumstances for a very short period of time, then return them to their normal life. For me, Congo is the only time this carefully wrought structure failed.

four thousand million times better than the movie.

A very quick, fun read. I thought the ending was lacking, and the technology references are certainly dated considering this was written in the early 80s, but the hope and excitement about what new technologies can bring to society still resonated.
