One of my favourite romances ever!

This is a messy slow-burn romance, an exploration of grief, an ode to cooking and Black art. It does contain the
age gap
trope which i’m never keen on but it was dealt with in pretty much a perfect way and i’m not really upset about it!

The drawn out sequences of Feyi and Alim discussing their feelings in an open way was so amazingly done and felt truly realistic. A breath of fresh air compared to romances where they never have a proper deep conversation about things.

I’ll add more at some future point.

I really enjoyed the descriptions of the food. I didn’t love the age-gap romance element to it and it was quite a big part of the plot. The discussions of grief are poignant, but I just got hung up on the romance element of the book that just was not for me.

I loved it !

From the rich descriptions of the location, people, events and emotions felt by the characters to the tense scenes, this book was a true work of art.

LGBTQIA+ rep: The MC is bisexual, but in this book is only in relationships with men. Her bsf is a raging lesbian (and we love her for it) and there are a few other sprinklings of gay…
