A quick read, steamy romance but also has emotional depth. Always impressed by how Emezi can write differently but beautifully in different genres.

This started off really strong for me. I like Feyi as a character and Joy is really funny, their relationship was my favorite. I liked reading about a woman working though her grief and learning to own her life and sexuality again

The main romance was enticing to me only when it was in the pre-stages. The forbidden flirting and shameful desire. I was gasping and kicking my feet

But as soon as everything got real, that’s when it got boring imo

The long drawn out (but very realistic) conversations about what to do, the disaster it brought to the family, all over a brand new relationship. I get it on one hand in-story but also found it hard at times to suspend my disbelief. And the titillation was gone. But I love Feyi’s development in the end

⭐️🎧Audiobook Listener🎧⭐️

I have never giggled while reading a book as much I as I did listening to this one. Is this how all romance novels are? It was such a riot! The dialogue is on point, I loved it when these characters interacted with one another, especially Feyi and Joy. I loved those two.

These characters are a classic case of saying the quiet part out loud which can come off as unsubtle but I found it refreshing. No pointless miscommunication arcs, no letting bad behavior slide for a love interest. Yes,
holding people accountable. Yes, allowing past relationships to help you, not to grow bitter, but to grow and to mature.
As someone who also overthinks and rethinks and regrets, I appreciated the drawn out moments of planning, rationalizing, and self-doubt.

Bahni Turpin brought this elegant writing to life. I was the tiniest bit upset when she couldn't do the Nigerian accent for some slang that I believe was meant to be read that way, but it's literally an almost negligible complaint. She really made me fall in love with Feyi throughout this book.

Emezi is one of the best writers I have read from. they write such full characters. the characters have flaws but can also be so loveable. while i could point out many “flaws” in this book, it doesn’t matter. i loved it
