First audiobook of the year!! Despite this being a thriller, following the crimes of the Whisper Man wasn’t what drew me in and kept me engaged — it was the father-son relationship.

It was really interesting to watch the father navigate through the grief of his wife’s death and the feelings of inadequacy he harbored as a parent, all while trying to do right by his son.

This half horror story, half crime drama had me at the edge of my seat wanting to hold my baby and never let her go. I couldn’t put the book down and felt like I had to know what was going to happen next. It says volumes about the parental bond and the importance placed on the role of a parent. Honestly this book probably deserves at least 4 stars but some of the content is just super sad to think about. I think the book reads as intended: fast paced, suspenseful, and nightmarish (especially for a parent) at times. I don’t typically read this kind of book so it definitely felt like a ride.
