2020 has brought us COVID, quarantine, lockdowns, mainstream mask wearing, and a timely YA meet cute anthology - Together, Apart. Together, Apart combines the talents of several young adult authors to share nine short stories set in the time of COVID. Anyone looking for some light and enjoyable reading that is still relevant to the times will love this collection. When everyone must stay six feet apart and facial expressions are literally masked, finding love has never been harder, but Together, Apart shows us that it is still indeed possible.

Together, Apart covers a wide variety of scenarios and includes several stories spotlighting diverse characters and relationships. Topics include falling for the pizza boy; finding love on a dog walk; discovering you might just have a thing for the guy on the opposite balcony; flirting with and impressing your crush on TikTok; obsessing over the guy next door; cooking up love and fortune in the kitchen; bonding over some friendly competition; learning you may just have a thing for your roommate; and falling in love through an app.

This collection of stories keeps the COVID references light and in the background, and shows the challenges that youth face in this time of crisis. From missing school friends, to skipping prom, to falling in love from a distance, Together, Apart is just the book teens need to show that they are not alone; that we are all in this together, albeit, apart.

These short stories were cute and fine, but just fine. Nothing special, pretty boring and simple overall.

If you like cutesy, clean, YA romance, it’s not bad. Short stories, so nothing too deep and complicated.

The Green Thumb War was my favorite. And the last one with the celebrity singing show was cute.

One thing that bothered me was that it didn’t really acknowledge the more negative parts of lockdown. Barely a mention of anti-maskers (zero arguments with their friends about wearing masks? is that actually realistic? am I the only one who lost dozens of friends in 2020?), no one actually GETS covid, no mention of the George Floyd protests or political drama. I guess that’s just not the vibe they were going for, but they basically make lockdown sound like a staycation. Which it was, for a lot of people, but there was a depressing gritty reality going on at the same time.

Overall: not quite my thing, but I’m sure someone would like it.

This was really cute! I enjoyed each story which is rare for me, usually short story collections tend to be hit or miss. A few I think would be great if they were expanded into novels. I also really appreciated the diversity. Overall this was a quick, very enjoyable read. 3.5 stars.

Thank you NetGalley, author and publisher for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

Together, Apart edited by Erin A. Craig was a delightful collection of YA short stories set in the time of COVID. It was a new and interesting experience to read a collection set in "real time," and I so appreciated these stories. I've read a few other books set in 2020 (obviously written before 2020 was a thing), and they obviously just don't work. It was an odd comfort to then read these stories that authentically considered how love happens right now. Each story was unique - in its plot, in its characters, and in the relationship that developed. These each showcased the challenges of relationships in the time of COVID, AND they showed how the characters found opportunity and connection in their situations. This was something different and light, and I needed that. Thanks to NetGalley for the early look at this recent release!

This was so cute, I loved all the stories in here. Especially the tree house one.
