Not a fan. Too many unimportant details. The story was confusing to follow - maybe it would have helped to read the first book? Also, most of the characters are unlikable.

Bounced between 3.75 and 4 but decided on 4 because at the end of the day, I would still recommend this as a mystery/thriller.

Without too many spoilies, this book bounces between two timelines: a US Marshal investigating a decades-old cold case, and the cold case itself. It’s got cults and politics and lots of other interesting things that make it quirky. The misogyny and general horrendousness of most of the characters is a lot to get through, but the story was complex in all the right ways. I do feel a little dissatisfied by certain small plot points, but not enough to let it bother me.

Definitely check out TWs before reading.

lots of copaganda (us security marshall-ganda?) in this one, but a smaller dose of the usual violent misogyny that is typically found in a Karen Slaughter novel. Which is not to say there was none but it was less prominent. This was a fairly slow book with the mystery being solved in like twenty pages at the end but I’m not mad about that and still found it interesting.

I really wanted to find out who the murderer was and had fun listening to the audio version of the book. It's my first Karin Slaughter book and I have another book on my TBR. I do think the book felt a little long (some drawn out explanations) and I did speed up the audio at times to get through some parts.

Karin Slaughter has yet to disappoint me. Lots of twists and turns and it did manage to surprise me a few times.

I didn’t realize this book was technically a sequel to Pieces of Her until I picked it up and I almost wish I hadn’t read the first. If I didn’t know Laura’s perspective then I probably would have been more on Andrea’s side about the conflict with her mom but I just wanted Andrea and Laura to get along. Seems like there will be more in this story so I hope we see them fully reconcile and not just get a bandaid fix.

Andrea frustrated me a bit but I really think she had a lot of character growth in this book. I loved Bible, he was so freaking likable. I hate Mike. I hated him in the last book and I hated him in this one. He’s not a bad guy per say but he’s incredibly pushy and it really gets under my skin.
