Just too dense for me right now

It was just so wonderful reading something my Dad loved and knowing exactly which bits would've been his favourites

This took me so long to read but I enjoyed it a lot, the writing was exquisite.

Zeer complete roman over de overeenkomsten in de verschillende tijden en dat alles met elkaar verbonden is. Het heden bestaat niet zonder het verleden en de toekomst niet zonder het heden.

I read the complete first half of the first story and just did not care for the complete lack of emotion, plot, or interesting characters.

Tried a solid 71 minutes of the 2nd story and couldn't handle how the writing style was so clipped and constantly sarcastic and detached it was. The random french dialogue was annoying and the main character was completely lacking in traits I find interesting and the story was going nowhere.

Third story I gave 6 minutes and nothing caught me.

Fourth story I gave 2 and just couldn't vibe with it at all and had so little faith from the others that I didn't continue.

The fifth story caught me. I read the complete first half and really was enjoying that. Nothing groundbteaking, but I was intrigued by the narrative choice to have it told in retrospect and it made me wonder how the character got from point A to B and I enjoyed the world building. I read the full first and second half of this story. The shocking "twist" towards the end of the story wasn't shocking... I cannot imagine it was even when originally written. The ending was hamfisted. But that I could forgive if it wasn't for the throw away treatment and pointlessness of the sex scene. It was so pointless and devoid of emotion or care for the main character of the emotional threwlines of her story. I cannot with how disconnected it made the author seem from the narrative and the points made contextually... And then the hamfisted ending to her story completely opposed and ignored the scene. Like why even put it in? Because man write sex? Man like sex? Just disappointing. The whole ending of this story made me completely loose faith in the authors ability to land any of these stories in an interesting, thoughtful, subtle or poinient way.

Sixth story I read 10 minutes of and gave up on. It is written in a made up slang... And I just don't trust this author for anything. I also skipped to get to the latter half of the 5th story and thought I might go back to it... But given how the 5th one ended I lost any interest in trying to finish this one or any of the other stories.

Just overall the book was very "see I can proof of concept that I write well" and I didn't vibe with it in any way.
