This is a sweeping book that explores structure and how people prey upon each other.

A challenging read with really unique framing. David Mitchell manages to write with 5 voices in one book, each with its own powerful identity.

An interesting read, though I wish there was a bit more to be made about the connections between the stories.

I’m not being dramatic but this book is one of the best ever written.

The first time I read it, the so far only time, I was in south of Africa. Sometimes the environment affects the reading experience. In this case it really enhanced it.

This book does not only have such a rich story, taken place across space and time, it is also one of the most skillfully written books of all time. Every chapter takes place in a different time and every chapter is written in a different medium and with a different style. From letters to diarys to interviews.
And at it’s centre a story about love and humanity.

So when reading about the apocalyptic future for humanity I was sitting in a remote village in the mountains without running water and electricity. All the while like the book was taken place all around me.
