It's rare that I read a book that I would describe as "charming." Even more rare is that I like that book. But Roald Dahl's Boy has charm in spades, and damn I enjoyed it.
Mr Dahl's memoir tells a series of stories from his earliest memories to his employment in Africa by Shell Oil. And through all of it, his strong, sure voice shines through. It's as if you are sitting next to Mr Dahl, sharing a drink and listening to him spin stories all night long.
When I closed the book, it was with some regret: I definitely want more. I know there is a sequel out there. I'll have to hunt it down.

Listened to it read by Dan Stevens, and it was utterly delightful. 10/10 recommend.
I liked this book a lot, I was down about the fact that I couldnt read most of the old letters and handwriting Mr. Dahl put in the book for us to enjoy. Otherwise, I enjoyed the stories.
I enjoyed this book tremendously! It reminded me that childhood wonder is lost only by choice, not force. Also, my Mum and both her brothers went to boarding school in India and I was interested (and at times saddened) to see their experiences reflected in Dahl's time at boarding school in England. However, it was heartening to see that through all that, the RAF, and even working at a typical post-graduate job, Dahl was able to tap into this inspiration and achieve so much and affect so many with his writing, myself included. So, more than anything, I love how this gave me more insight into an author who personally encouraged my interest in reading and whose work I can endlessly re-read.
It's interesting to read about the experiences that shaped Roald Dahl. It also made me very glad that we've made so many advances in the world of medicine.
I have always wanted to read Boy but never got round to it. I am glad to it because Roald Dahl write with charm and wit. The scenes are so vivid and it doesn't feel like these events have happened because they feel surreal. The people described are more fictional characters and not real people. The worse parts are the one with the whipping and you can feel Dahl's underlying anger about it.
