Horrifying how children were treated by some of those who were charged with teaching them in the 20th century. Explains so much about why society was so messed up. Beyond that, a charming book that provides insight into the settings, plot, and characters of some of Mr Dahl's books. Recommended.
Being autobiographical, this makes for a very different read compared to Dahl's other books. While still aimed at a younger audienve, it paints a fairly complex image of the 20s British school system, travelling, medicine and social life. It's an easy, captivating read.
