Four stars!
This book was much better than the first in terms of the story and its development. I enjoyed that there was more worldbuilding and development of the details. The character relationships are very messy, but no longer in a bad way.
The only downside here is that the book ends with a trope I just cannot stand for a variety of reasons.
That being said, I will still be reading the next book, as I want to know more about the lore, the world, and the magic system.

Audiobook Review:
I rated the first book a 4.5 and this one is a solid 4⭐️.
I really enjoyed Sabine discovering more about her powers and how much stronger she became. I also liked the tension/lust/love between Sabine and Bastian as they try to stay away from each other but just can’t.
There’s a lot of discovery and build-up to book 3 and the looming war to come. Just when you think Bastian and Sabine are going to get the Heading home they deserve, the rug is ripped out from beneath us!
I’m still very intrigued by this story and where it’s going, I am just not a person fan of fighting or battle. I get super bored and want to skip it, but that is absolutely a me thing!
I hope Sabine becomes a badass so she isn’t used by anyone else, I hope her and Bastian get their HEA and I actually hope Rian has some sort of HEA.
