I was originally going to give this 4 stars, and then we got to part 2 in the book and I immediately had a bad feeling.

Also the description of this is wrong, the end part of the description doesn't happen whatsoever. Except I didn't read that because it's not on the back of my book so I was unaware until I was reading other reviews.

Warning, this review will have a lot of spoilers because I feel very strongly about this book I was really loving.

This starts off with a car crash, and Vale's boyfriend Crawford is in a coma. She visits him every day, she reads to him every day - she's the perfect girlfriend. In this time she meets Slate, who is visiting his dying Uncle in the same hospital and also happens to be Vale's older brothers Fraternity. Slate is your typical player, sleeps around with every girl.

Vale becomes friends with Slate, and when Crawford shows no signs of waking up from his coma before Vale and him were meant to go to College, she goes without him.

This is where the spoilers start!
During her time at college she becomes closer with Slate and they eventually start a relationship of sorts. She struggles with the idea that he wanted it to be non-exclusive relationship (I guess this word is open haha) and eventually tells him how she feels and just as they are about to have sex, she begins to wake up from a coma.

Let's move onto part 2.

This is where my issues started, it was such a bad trope!
The people she thought she had become friends with were actually her nurses. She was in the coma the whole time and Crawford was awake playing football (?? I can't remember to be honest what he played.) Slate was the one who read to her, and unlike in her "dream", Crawford didn't stay by her bedside and moved on with his life right away.

She had this feeling she no longer loves him and has this crush on Slate, but barely even knows him. She gets out of hospital, they got to college, becomes closer to Slate all while dating Crawford still and not being up front with him. Slate's Uncle dies and Vale ignores her boyfriend to be with Slate, caring for him.

Blah blah blah things happen and eventually Crawford and Vale go to a party and Vale finds out that Crawford wasn't faithful to her, and she isn't overly upset but accepts this and leaves him. A month or so later, after some more meaningless stuff happens, she's broken up with Crawford and Slate comes into her work and kisses her.

Here's what I did like:

- I really enjoyed Part 1, I felt like the plot was going to be predictable
(aka Crawford waking up from his coma and coming to find Vale & Slate being too close for his liking)
but that was a nice sort of twist ... just not what I wanted.
- I liked seeing the development between Vale and Slate.

Here's what I didn't like:

- Vale is so hypocritical, she excepts her partner to be committed to only her
while she's in a coma
, but she's allowed to flirt with someone else while Crawford is in a coma. When I say partner this applies to any Male she's interested in
- The relationship development in Part 2 was the complete opposite of Part 1, it felt forced and rushed and I really didn't enjoy it.
- Basically everything about Part 2. It would have been a far more enjoyable story if it had just stuck to the typical "oh no my boyfriend has woken up and I've been flirting with someone else since coming to College" trope over what actually happened.

Basically I'm not happy. So unhappy in fact I'm lowering my rating to 1.5/5 as I write this.

I loved this book. I read it in only 2 days is was so addicting !

I loved the plot twist by the end and that's it. I didn't connect with Vale. she was kinda annoying and childish and then BAM a sex scene outta nowhere. No, thanks. Next.

I read this entire book in less than 24 hours. It gave me all the big feelings that I have come to expect with this author. It transported me into this story. However, the major plot twist through me off real bad and it almost felt like part one and part two should have been two separate books.

This book was split into two parts.
I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first part and was fairly certain this would only be a two star book.
Then the second part happened and I was not expecting that plot twist but it was very welcome.
It changed my thoughts about the book and redeemed it a bit.

Overall: 3/5 stars

Originality: 3/5 stars
Pacing: 3/5 stars

Ending: 3/5 stars
Enjoyment: 4/5 stars

I liked the first half and the twist was interesting, but I didn't get their connection in the second part. This part feels rushed and was so short for my liking

I wish the second part was edited out. Unsatisfying(-ly), ruined the heart I had on the first part.

"Then, Crawford wakes up . . . with no memory of Vale or their relationship." Never been trolled by a book before, but I have now (that little scene didn't happen). If it wasn't for the Edgar Allan Poe poem reference, this book would have had me really confused. I just wish it had a stronger delivery. It could've been really strong and thought provoking.

Vale and Crawford are seniors in high school, set to go off to college together in the fall. However, on the very last day of school, they are in a horrible car accident and Crawford ends up in a coma. Vale sits by his side in the hospital all summer and doesn't know how she can possibly go on with her own plans without him. (Seriously??) But she does meet intriguing, cute guy Slate at the hospital. Cue romantic triangle. Huge plot twist about 2/3 of the way through that ruined it for me. Sex on page is fairly graphic, plus age of characters makes this more appropriate for high school.
