I loved this book and was throughly hooked by the second half. I didn’t even mind the cliche lift part or the expected disequilibriums. However I’m so disappointed by the ending which made me knock off a star. It felt rushed, unnecessary and very unrealistic for them to decide to get married after only being a real couple for a weekend? What about her want for children and his lack of desire for them that didn’t get addressed? I hoped for a better ending to an amazing and well paced book.

This book was really cute. I loved the relationship between the main characters and the way they both really grew and developed as characters. The first 25% of the book was kind of boring though. We just kept talking about the break-up from her previous relationship and I just did not care. I understand that the fake dating had to make sense, so we had to read some of the breakup, but it just kept going on and on. I think we the male main character was mentioned twice during the first 25% percent of te book. I would've preferred if the interactions with him had started a little earlier, but it was enjoyable none the less.

I really liked this!! ❤

In the beginning, I was a bit surprised where it started, only because I definitely expected when I picked it up for it start well after post breakup based on the premise. And while reading the first quarter or so, I did keep thinking okay but when do we get to the "good stuff" (ie the fake dating). That all being said, by the time I reached the last few chapters, everything came full circle SO nicely and I took back my feelings on the beginning. 😂

I really loved the way this grew - how the characters came together was so satisfying and so believable - almost slow burn. I found myself thinking about the characters a lot when I wasn't reading it, and I absolutely LOVED the utter Britishness of it.

I will say this is technically is 4.5 stars from me only because I wanted more humor and shenanigans to come with the fake dating trope, but I loved the realness of Laurie all around - her heartbreak, reasons for getting it the scheme, reasons for being mistrustful, her growth outside of Dan, friendship and relationship with Jamie, lady friendships, dynamics with her parents, her snark, all of it. 👌👌👌

(PS: 2)

If you’re looking for a true romance, this isn’t it, it’s an emotional rollercoaster with a few sprinkles of romance thrown in and the final 10 minutes of the audiobook.

⭐⭐⭐ 3 Stars

I’ve been trying to write a review about this book for probably half an hour, but I have a lot of mixed feelings about it. Because of the marketing surrounding the book I was expecting a more funny and romantic story but in reality is more about dealing with an awful breakup.

It’s not like the breakup wasn’t handled correctly but it took away a lot of the time to develop the new relationship. And I never really saw Laurie getting over Dan, it was more like finding a replacement. I would have loved to see more of her development as an independent woman first or at least seeing it happening at the same time she’s falling for Jamie, but a lot of side plots happen and I feel like we never see any of those two things fully accomplished.

Also the writing in the beginning it’s a bit weird, the laughs are actually put as dialogue instead of as a description: “Hahahaha” “lol”. And the rhythm of the book it’s even messier. Half of the book it’s Laurie lamenting her situation with Dan and suddenly, after probably 3 dates with few interactions, she’s visualizing herself having kids with Jamie. She mentions a very delicate situation with her father’s friends when she was little that came out of nowhere that it’s only used for mother-daughter bonding for 2 chapters and then it's discarded.

It was entertaining but I was never really immersed in the story.

1 extra star for mentioning Little Mix.

This involves the "pretend dating" trope, which I didn't mind at all as it was done so well. Funny dialogue and characters with some depth.
