Tropes: found family, besotted hero, possessive hero, Cinderella retelling, he falls first
Rafe is perfect. Ever since he met Charlotte he is 100% sure that she's THE ONE. But Charlotte has secrets of her own and not even herself is aware of her reality. When her stepfather makes it clear that the duke (hero) shall marry Francesca (her sweet stepsister) and not herself, a whole lot of things will unravel.
This is true love to the core.
Charlotte and Rafe are two souls so alike that you might end up tearing up more than once while readin'. They're both selfless, passionate, architecture-geeks who simply belong together. And his family and friends... well, you're bound to love them all.
"You can go through my door and leave forever. I won't stop you, if that's what you truly want. But in my heart of hearts, you'll always be mine, Charlotte. (...) I will marry you tonight. I will marry you tomorrow. I will marry you any day you choose."

Going into this, I expected the instalove between our main characters (given that this is a Cinderella retelling), so I wasn't that bothered by that, even though usually I'm against that trope.
I really liked the main characters - while Charlotte was your typical strong and independent heroine, Rafe was very different from the usual historical romance heroes; he wasn't a rake, and he was determined to find love, which was a breath of fresh air in a genre that usually has heroes that are reluctant to admit they even have feelings at all.
While this was nothing groundbreaking and I did have some issues with the plot and the romance, mostly with the fact that Charlotte's reluctance to trust Rafe and tell him the truth kind of cheapened their connection for me, it was a quick and enjoyable read, and I'd be interested in picking up more books by Eva Devon.
Thank you to Entangled Publishing and Netgalley for providing me with an ARC. All opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the twists in this retelling of Cinderella. With the one being instead of her having an evil stepmother it’s an evil stepfather. And boy is he evil, with what he did to Charlotte and to his own daughter. And then there’s the slow burn of love with Rafe and Charlotte. The steamy chemistry between them was good and fun. Even the steamy love scenes.
The Duke's Secret Cinderella was a very good historical romance fairytale retelling. I loved both Charlotte and Rafe's characters and loved the chemistry between them. While Safe wants to wait to marry for love, his mother forces him to find a wife right away. He soon meets Charlotte, who hits him with a brick. As I said, I loved Charlotte's character. Even though she has been mentally and physically abused by her step-father, she is such a strong character. And Rake is a super kind and gentle MMC, which I always love. While I did really love this book, the ending seemed a little unrealistic to me, and I wished they would have found out what they did after they got together. This is my first book by Eva Devon, and I am already looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

One of my favorite things is when the hero falls in love with the heroines brain and her wit. It’s fine for him to recognize her beauty but I want him to be mesmerized by her intelligence. This Duke is completely bowled over by Charlottes brain. Her terrible upbringing has been tolerable because of her stepsister. Francesca is lovely in her own right. I
I loved the interactions between the Duke & Charlotte. However, the last 1/8 of the book took a very melodramatic turn that took a bit if the shear from the story.
It’s still a good Cinderella retelling.

I really thought this was going to be all smut and not plot. but it was honestly really well balanced. It was sweet and hot! but had a really good plot and story line too.
1.7/5
Boring. Nothing actually happened up until like the 87% mark, and I hate the audio narration. The voice is just very…idk I can’t help imagining the person as a tiny annoying pick me blonde.
1. I was always yelling at the fmc; Charlotte to tell the guy what her stepdad was up to and to tell him the truth because HELLOO? ARENT ALL HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS BASED OF OF TRUTHS??????
2. I felt no chemistry. There was nothing. The guy always acted like he had a ‘claim’ to her since he was the duke. He thought anyone and everyone would want to marry him in a heartbeat. It felt like he was trying too hard. I hate him and his povs were disgusting
The only reason I’m not giving this 1 star is because of Francesca and Gregory. I’m a sucker for romance with letters.

This is a historical romance set in the Regency era. This is the story of Charlotte Browne, a young woman with a troubled past, who meets Rafe Dorchester, the Duke of Rockford. It all begins when Charlotte tells Rafe she is a lady. This lie sets off a chain of events, leading to Charlotte and Rafe's relationship developing unexpectedly. Rafe is searching for a bride and has strict criteria for his future wife, but Charlotte's charm and wit capture his attention. The plot has enough twists and turns that kept me invested in the story. The audiobook was narrated by Sasha Higgins and I enjoyed hearing her and the way she portrayed the characters, I would recommend getting it as well.

Eva Devon has done it again - blending both historical romance and classic retellings seamlessly. If you are a fan of the movie 'Ever After', you will devour this book in one sitting the same way I did.
Our heroine Charlotte is the epitome of a Cinderella character. She is kind and good hearted, even through the trials her stepfather forces upon her. Rafe is kind and dashing, with a strong and lovable grandmother to tie the story together.
While retellings of Cinderella may be easy to find, a good one that keeps you thinking about it long after you've turned the last page is not. I would recommend this book to readers of all kinds, especially if you are beginning your foray into historical romance.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to Entangled Publishing and Netgalley for the advanced review copy.
