I really like the Eve Duncan thrillers, and this one was no exception. However I am not sure about the series from now on. Johansen's last book wasn't my favorite (Pandora's Box) and I wasn't crazy about her take on the psychic phenomena (other than the Bonnie sightings by Eve). Now it appears she is going to combine the Eve Duncan thrillers with the new psychic characters from the last book, and I am withholding judgment until the next book.

I really enjoy this author and the story of Eve, Joe, and Bonnie.. this one having many twists and turns. Good narration, too, which always helps to imagine the story taking place right there as I'm watching. I've got to find the other books I've missed in this series :-)

I'm from Idaho, currently renting an island home in the Bahamas for two weeks to finish writing my third book. While perusing the bookshelves, I was thrilled to find QUICKSAND by Iris Johansen. Interestingly, part of the storyline takes place in a snowbound hideaway in Idaho.
HOLY MOLY! I don't scare easy, but this is one heckofa nail-biting, page-turning, edge-of-the-seat ride! And on those occasions when I feel like having the bejeebers scared out of me, you can be sure that this new-to-me author is one whose books I will make a point of reading.

I think these are possibly getting slightly ridiculous now, but my gosh I still can't get enough and just keep reading them.
Eve is still trying to find Bonnie and this time the person she is after seems like a good bet, but she needs some extra help from a 'listener'
A fast paced and tense thriller as long as you can just roll with it.

Eve Duncan is still looking for her daughter Bonnie. Bonnie disappeared when she was 7 and has never been found. Eve and Joe are on the trail of a child killer who may be the one who took Bonnie. They got his name from Montalvo as a part of his promise to Eve when she helped him to identify his wife's body. Now Montalvo has joined the hunt.
Kistle the killer who is pure evil leads Joe, Eve, Montalvo (and his side kick Miguel) to the Okefenokee Swamp and an island that has been his burial ground. He does this by kidnapping a little girl and telling Eve that he'll lead her to Bonnie's grave.
A new character (from a stand alone book Pandora's Daughter) is called in to assist. She's a 'listener' and hears the voices of the children who have been killed.
This books is all about the search for Bonnie's killer. There really isn't much else in it and that's okay. If you like sick killers and suspense, then this one is for you.

First of all I want to say one thing, I don’t like
joe. I never have, he’s controlling and I think he’s an ass. Second, everyone keeps saying how eve is annoying with her obsession. Um I’m sorry but if I had a kid taken from me like that I would be doing the same thing. I would be doing anything and everything to find them. My biggest issue with this series is he repetitiveness. One leaves and the other follows. It’s always the same thing really. Also the characters are very very similar and it’s annoying. Why are all the women considered “emotionally weak” and the males are all “super alpha males” that’s not how the world works.
I know it may seem like I don’t like this series but I am enjoying it very much (with a few exceptions). I really enjoy her writing style and I’m choosing not to look too closely at the book. I enjoyed reading it and I won’t look any further than that. I won’t start picking it apart in my head.

I had to DNF this one because, to be quite frank, it read like it was written for old conservative grandmas. And that’s fine, but I’m not one.

This book did not suck me it, and was actually kind of tedious. The cardboard characters held no appeal, and the characters were not at all engaging. Thumbs down on this book.
