This book was just lovely! The world building was easy to follow! The character development was enjoyable seeing the fmc develop from a scared young girl to a bad ass! I loved this book x
I really enjoyed the unique magic system and world building on this one. I would say it leans more YA but with the new adult angst and random sexual tension sprinkled in.
I’m interested to see how the series develops going forward and hopefully some of those issues will be ironed out. I will definitely be continuing this series.

By the Orchid and the Owl is the first book in Mariah Montoya’s The Esholian Institute series.
It follows the story of 18-year old Rayna and her first year at the Esholian Institute where she will receive her magic and be trained to use it for the next five years.
This book was awesome! The plot, the twists, the characters, the world-building… I loved everything about this book. The characters are relatable and have depth to them, the story is intricate yet not difficult to follow, the magic system is unique.
I absolutely loved this book and cannot wait for book 2.
