Yeni mutlaka okuyun demem.Bende sırf okumak için okudum.Eğer masalın uzun versiyonunada göz atmak isterseniz kitap bire bir..

What a lovely re-telling! I had a great time reading this, though this is obviously one of the tales that everyone knows at least one version of by heart. This is a more old-fashioned telling of the story, but with a more modern heroine. I enjoyed breezing through this one. :)
This version of the tale is more understanding of Beauty and her family. Her sisters are more as I always wanted to see them - kind, loving, but defenseless. It took much longer to get to the Beast's role than I'd hoped, but I suppose that's why it's called Beauty.
I have no idea what I read that got me to download this story, but it was not exactly what I was expecting.
The story itself is fine, and is a simple retelling of the classic, but in my head I thought it was going to be a retelling with some heat to it and it's not. Again this is on me as I can't remember why I got the book to begin with.

i know that this is a book for younger people, but i must have read it ten times. i keep going back to it. it's well-written and somewhat believable.
This is, simply, my favorite retelling of my favorite fairy tale. Wonderful and satisfying. It was my first introduction to the idea of retelling a fairy tale. I grew up reading all the "color" fairy tale books by Andrew Lane. (Did you know these are online now??), and "Beauty and the Beast" was always my favorite (Roses! Horses! Your own palace and dresses! And all those BOOKS!) This retelling abounds with humor and charm, and is still one of the best fairy tale retellings I've ever read.

I felt like this COULD have been really good. I enjoyed the writer's style and her use of language, but I felt like the story was seriously lacking. The Beast isn't even introduced until nearly half way through the book. There were so many great ideas that could have been fleshed out to add some depth to the story. The Beast's ability to control his garden, Lydia and Bessie and the things they were hinting at (did they even know what they were talking about?), Greatheart's eventual acceptance of the Beast, the things that allowed Beauty to sense when the Beast was near by, the list goes on and on. As it was, I felt like she introduced some concepts as a pencil sketch, but never fleshed them out into detail. I was kind of let down by it.
There was soooo much time spent on how Beauty ended up in the Beast's neighborhood, her family dynamic, how life was different in the country than in the city etc. etc. etc. that it felt like it was dragging through the first half of the book and then second half was more: and she met the Beast, got used to him and learned to love him. The End. Oh and let's not forget the magical appearance of everyone she ever knew at the very end. Whaaaa?
Could have been so much more than it was, I kind of want Ms. McKinley to try again and see if she can get it right this time.
