This was a beautifully told war time story! It starts off a bit slow but once it starts going I found myself needing to know what was going on.

So close to a 5 star read. it has everything from lost romances, family relationship troubles, trying to find yourself while also struggling with grief, grappling with the past and trying to move on, and then everyone all being connected in the end. Once I got going reading this book I literally didn’t want to stop. The only thing that stops this from being 5 stars for me is that once the interconnections were revealed (which I didn’t completely see coming, not in the same way anyways) I knew how the book was going to end and I almost wanted something to stay tragic at the end so it felt a little more realistic rather than everyone getting their happy ending.

 The Keeper of Happy Endings by Barbara Davis
 4/5 ⭐ 

I am a huge fan of novels with two POVs. I haven't read novels based in the WW2 era recently, but this book helped remind me why I love them. I enjoyed watching the way the two storylines merged. 

I liked this book because: 
 🪡 It showed the vulnerability of all of the characters
 🪡 Amazing character development and growth
 🪡 The feeling and mood of the book definitely grabbed into my heart strings 
 🪡 The end of the book was done beautifully and just right
 🪡 The highlights of the resistance members during WW2

What an amazing audio book. I was blown away by this book and this author and she fast becoming one of my favourite writers.
This follows the life of Soline a French seamstress who we meet during the Second World War in Paris. As the city changes with the arrival of the Nazis, she suffers loss but also meets her the love of her life.
In present day we meet Soline who has sheltered herself off from society and she meet Rory who wants to rent the building owned by Soline and discovers a box which belongs to Soline.
As the story weaves from present to past we learn Soline’s life story from Paris to her move overseas to the United States and the people she meets along the way.
Rory becomes in present day an important part of her life and as secrets and lies are uncovered life will change for Soline completely.
It was such a beautiful book, it make me cry, it gave me a warm cuddle and I was addicted to it completely.
Another ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from this author ♥️♥️♥️

The Keeper of Happy Endings by Barbara Davis

This story has a magical feel to it and for good reason. Soline Roussel had been born to a maker of bridal dresses and over time, despite the loss of her talented mother, Soline makes bridal dresses, too. But first Soline volunteers at a hospital in WWII France, where she meets the American who steals her heart. It is later, after Soline has left France, that she takes up the path her mother had followed and her mother's guidance is always present in Soline's mind. 

Decades later, Soline allows Rory Grant to lease her gutted bridal shop so Rory can display and promote the work of new artists. Reclusive Soline has to let down her barriers to allow Rory into her life. The two women, so different, also are alike, and friendship and respect develops between the two despite their great age difference. 

Both women have lost so much and that is just one of the things that draws them together. But it's more than that and as time goes on they find their ties and the echoes of the past and present that won't allow them to let go of what they have found. They may have lost hope in parts of their lives but they are finding healing through each other and the special magic Soline's mother taught her long ago.

The story starts very slowly and at first Soline's memories of her mother and her mother's wisdom felt a bit info dump-ish, while I struggled with the areas of the audiobook that contained very heavily accented French. But at about the time that Soline and Rory come together, the story became so interesting to me that I was happy for what I'd learned earlier in the book and I began to understand the story and its message much better. 

By the end of the story, I was enchanted with this story that fosters hope, forgiveness, and new beginnings for young and old. Very much a feel good story for me despite so much sadness, longing, and the isolation of the characters, even when they weren't alone physically. This is a different type of wartime story and the wounds of the characters aren't just those of war. By the end of the audiobook, I was happy with the narration of both narrators even if I struggled with one of the narrations at first. 

This is a KU audiobook.
