Cute book. Love the slightest bit of romance there is and the mention of another series she wrote in chapter 43 when One of Us is Lying is brought up cause Mikhail Powers bought Ellie flowers after the accident.

  • 4.5⭐️
  • This was a fast paced mystery which I will always love! I also loved the high school setting, it almost felt like watching a TV show
  • The premise sounded interesting enough but it turned out to be so much more. I loved how there were so many interconnected mysteries and stories that were related to the main investigation.
  • Brynn as a character was already likable from the beginning but I appreciated how she grew and realized she wasn’t being the best person to people around her. Sacrificing her internship to protect Tripp is not something I think her from the beginning of the book would’ve done.
  • Tripp’s confession was truly shocking to me and it explained his behaviour throughout the book. I also didn’t expect Mr. Larkin to be a bad guy either but since this story is from Brynn’s perspective it makes sense that she had some blinders concerning him.
  • I didn't think that the romance or conclusion were rushed and I felt satisfied with the resolution.
  • I didn’t mind the open-endedness of the conclusion, as it feels quite obvious what the truth is.

This YA mystery was a quick listen and I found myself looking forward to listening to. Less than 24 hours after finishing it, though, I've already forgotten many of the characters' names and the plot twists, so am giving it 2 stars.

McManus is a queen of YA mystery

4.5

Giving this 4.5 because there is no definitive answer to this who done it.

But with that being said I am truly a Karen McManus fan. She does a great good with keeping readers engaged. There are always a plethora of characters involved in the story but it never feels muddled. I thoroughly enjoy how she continues with a format of bouncing back and forth between characters for narration of chapters.

Also love that all of her stories take place in the same world and get mentioned in other novels.

Well written and interesting. Ending was a bit rushed though. Would’ve liked at least 10 more pages to wrap up the story better.

granted I read it just as quickly as her others and I did really enjoy it!! It just wasn’t the most plot twist/satisfying ending compared to the style of writing but it was a better character development and being a human type deal

3.5 stars

I liked everything but the ending that felt way too rushed.

Otherwise, Karen M. McManus has written a gripping YA thriller once again. I especially liked the parts about Brynn's internship at the true crime podcast.

Read it in one sitting. And damn! It was excellent. I don’t wanna spoil anything, but there were surprises all over the freaking place!!! And the details in the characters-little stuff like Shane being so so so laid back and Charlotte being such a bossy snot and Ellie just being so ridiculously cool. I loved it. I was rapt until the very last page. Literally. A great read. Which is not surprising coming from McManus.
