I really feel like the beginning of this book could have been cut to make it shorter. It hits its stride about halfway through though, so don't give up!

Covenant by Cora Rose and Lark Taylor is the first book in The Firm series. You can expect secret society, fake marriage, bi-awakening, childhood friends to enemies to lovers and morally gray vibes.
In Covenant we are introduced to Wyatt who has fallen from grace following a harrowing accident involving his younger kid brother. His parents are not an option to help care for his brother so Wyatt is forced to drop his entire life to do so. His ex-best friend had recently taken over the law firm he was employed with and following his brother’s accident, he was subsequently fired from his lucrative career as an attorney. While his disdain for Matthias was palpable before, its turned into pure hatred. How could someone be so callous and cruel? Now he’s barely getting by, unable to afford even basic necessities and his brother is wasting away before his eyes. He needs a life line and he’s just desperate enough to reach out the one group of people he knows could help him but also might take more from him than he has to give.
In Matthias’s world, you do as your told. If you don’t, there are severe consequences. Consequences he’s all too familiar with. He never meant to hurt Wyatt but he was never given any other choice. Now, years later, he needs a way to get Wyatt back in his orbit. He knows he needs help but he also knows Wyatt won’t accept anything from him. But when Wyatt reaches out to The Firm for help, Matthias knows that his situation might just offer a way to get what he wants and to help Wyatt in the process. He’s playing a dangerous game but making Wyatt his is worth it.
Covenant was an amazing read. I loved the dynamic between the two MCs. This was very hard fought HEA for both of them with a lot of history that needed to be healed. Matthias wasn’t exactly an anti-hero but definitely rode the morally gray line in this story and due to his circumstances, Wyatt isn’t left with any option but to go along with the demands made of him. The push and pull in this story really keeps you on your toes but there’s also some really touching moments between the MCs. I gave this book a 4.5 and can’t wait for the next one.

It was pretty predictable and a lot of repetition.
I really liked the vibes of this book, a secret wish granting society and the premise of Wyatt and Matthias and their deal. I loved the family and all of the brothers. Possessive, always been you vibes were also strong, less mafia and murder. I wish we had more from Matt's POV and less time with the characters not communicating.

The plot in this was a little bit convoluted. The idea of The Firm is not very well explained, and is not a big part of the storyline in this first book. It is the key that brings them together, but the behind-the-scenes workings are not really seen, since we are not supposed to fully understand the involvement of The Firm until later in the story. I suspect we will learn a lot more about it in further books, especially in Wylder’s story.
I really enjoyed the intensity of Wyatt and Matthias’ relationship, and the obsession. I would recommend this for fans of Alessandra Hazard’s books, especially her Straight Guys series. This also features a bi-awaking like all of Alessandra’s characters. And childhood friends/second chance.
I do really hope that Jackson and Dalton does become a thing. Maybe not for a few books, so Jackson can grow up since he is only 18 right now. But Dalton is not that much older. If Matthias is 28 and Dalton is the brother right before Matthias he is probably around 26. So that’s only an eight year age difference. So maybe when Dalton is 30 and Jackson is about 22 they can have a book. Because I do love age gaps! And I can’t wait for Cade’s story next, because wow! What a teaser!
