4.5 rounded down. I almost want to give it five stars because all of the people who gave it one star. I rarely feel spiteful about the reviews of others but this was a very good, although overlong, book. It's not a Russian tragedy or classic literature, it's a teenage-angsty magical, weirdness happens sorta book. And it is as enjoyable as that kind of book could be.

I had high hopes for this book but it was painfully boring.  I understand that might be the point of the characters (immature, ordinary teens), but the author is making me slog through the boring-ness of it all without even making the prose or the relationships interesting. I tried reading the physical book and then picked up the audiobook to see if that would help. It didn’t. Other reviewers say that it picks up in the last third of the book but life is too short.
