So much of this book was read through tears and a stomach tied up in knots. It is a sin and a shame what this country has done to children. Never has a book made me feel so anxious. Due creates characters that you love fiercely almost from the moment you meet them. She weaves history and fiction so expertly. this book has certainly changed me.

really really strong book discussing a horrible hidden truth in US history. the horror elements that the author weaves into the story are fantastic; it drew me in and keep me turning the pages. I really enjoyed the authors writing style and thoroughly enjoyed my reading experience.
the pitfall of this book is its length. there were often moments that felt drawn out. I was especially disappointed to see that despite the length, certain character plot lines were never concluded, especially ms hamilton’s.
(as a side note: this book also reminded me a lot of nickel boys. having seen the movie only recently it was difficult for me to separate the two. however, this is a personal problem, as the stories are very different despite both taking place in a school for boys.)

This was my first real horror read. Absolutely harrowing, but very well written. Total page turner. The Blue reveal had me shook. The Chicago ending felt a bit simple compared to the lead-up, but I appreciate the author wanted to finish on a lighter note.
