I swore to stop reading Laurell Hamilton's books, but I found this one the library shelf and took it home. Surprise! I didn't hate it. It reminded me a bit of her earlier books -- in that the plot took more precedence than the bad sex scenes. I was interested in how Anita was going to get out of her jam. A very quick read. I may add Ms. Hamilton back to my regular rotation of authors.
Good, but I don't see how it deserved it's own book. This cold have been made shorter and placed at the beginning of bullet or at the end of skin trade. It was an ok short story. I think she should have punished Jacob somehow instead of letting him go. I thought Nicky was like a puppy, as Nathanial had referenced him to, but at least she has a lion now - or does she?
FYI: This one is a short read so don't be afraid to have the next in the series waiting its turn!
Not bad. I've read others I've enjoyed more. But it was fun to read the Afterward-how she came up with a scene in the book, and see the comic strip. That part was interesting. This is the 2nd Anita book in a row that has toned down the metaphysical sex. Less porn more story! Yay!
This was another short story type book in the Anita Blake series. L.K. Hamilton actually writes an afterword in the book which is nice. She lets everyone know where she get's her ideas from. Her dinner date with another couple, the music she listens to , the people in her life. I thought it was funny that her husband her friends both have long wave hair. I always though it was weird all her male characters had that look, but I guess she writes what she knows.
Anita is blackmailed to animate a rich client's wife.
The book was pretty good. I appreciated that the writing was less repetitive, and that it was plot driven. I really enjoyed the plot. I find it interesting that I use to love the relationship driven books, but now I'm tired of them and cheer for the plot driven ones. I thought Anita's decisions were huge for her character, and I wish that there was more time spent on the impact / consequence. There was definitely room for it. The actual story is only about 160 pages, with another 20 about the writing process.

Was not what I was expecting.. I'm really hoping that Bullet is off the charts because I was really dissapointed with this one!! Still giving it 4 stars because I love LKH but I think Anita is getting a little to soft.. I know she's a woman but she's a tough B***H!! lol!!
There's a reason I stopped buying these books. There's also a reason why I say I won't read any more after each one. But then, I got and read it anyway and I've no idea why that is. Maybe it's because I feel like I've invested so much time in this series that I'm compelled to finish it. And let's be honest: They don't exactly take much time to read so it's not like there's a huge time investment. Laurell K. calls this a novel in her Afterword. I think she's kidding herself. First, there's the obvious: this book is only 180 pages long, and that's being general. The 180 includes the Introduction, Afterword, and the 6 pages of comic that she didn't even do herself. The actual "novel" is only 158 pages. The Afterword is this long piece of bullshit about how she and her friends had this scene in a restaurant that she copies word for word in her book. The comic contains the exact same text of the conversation. Neither one does anything to enhance this book in the least. The actual story is little more than a short story. Not a lot happens and there's not a lot of substance. If Anita didn't take 12 pages to mull over ever decision she makes with ever single person in her life, she might get a lot more done and a lot more might happen. There's nothing here to really advance the overall Anita story either. She adds yet another boy to her harem, but that's hardly a revelation or even important.
Wasn't as good as previous books. Hopefully Bullet is better.
