Short book/quick read, good story. A little taste of zombies.
A semi-novel, in the vein of Micah, rather than a full-length Anita Blake novel, it was actually a breath of fresh air for the series. It started fairly well with an interesting interview with a man who wanted to bring his wife back from the dead but quickly degenerated into another "Anita plays ego stroking with her men" scene which have made the last few books in this series tiresome with their repetitiveness.
Once we're past that scene however, the rest of the book reminded me why I started reading these books in the first place. There is zombie raising, flesh eating, a human sacrifice and, perhaps unfortunately, yet another beta male added to Anita's harem.
Nice to whet the appetite. I look forward to reading Bullet now.

Although I really do love the Anita Blake series, this novella just wasn't as good as I'd hoped it would be. It is a quick, easy read. It wasn't bad, just not great. My favorite part was the breakdown at the end of Hamilton's writing process, etc. That was fascinating and I loved reading about how she gets ideas and makes them come to life.
One of my least favorite in the Anita Blake series. It seemed forced.
aaaaaand I remember why I usually only read one of these books at a time. Anita is nuts.
I would probably have liked it more if I had read the other books in the series. However, it stands alone just fine, too.
Anita Blake is asked to reanimate a man's wife. When he refuses to tell Anita the reason for the reanimation, Anita refuses to perform the service. Then things take a turn for the dramatic. Meanwhile, Anita is also flirting with a new man - and, in turn, flirting with danger.
A fun read.

fast-paced
This was a lot more fun than the last ones have been. And short. Short is good.
Another great Anita story. Much shorter than the past couple of novels, but don't dismiss it due to it's size! So much happens and Anita really gets an indepth look into her various powers. Nice to see Anita back "on the job" doing what comes natural, raising the dead. Felt lucky to get an "extra" Anita book this year. Also Hamilton's afterword is great for those who follow her work and have the usual questions about where an author get's their inspiration. But don't peak because there are some spoilers from the story that she references.
Same Anita, a little more about her at work, a little less sex, but the shorter length still made the book overall lacking.
