I enjoyed it. I liked that it took complicated topics and handled them in a way that's fitting for middle graders.
However, I also disliked how simplistic and easy everything seemed because of how it was written for those younger readers.
It's essentially a great story that can open up the room for discussions about the topics and issues presented.

When 12-year-old Zoe receives a letter from him, claiming he didn't commit the crime, she gets curious. Zoe researches his crime and if he actually could have been innocent. With the help of a neighbor and friend, Zoe unravels the secrets to her father's crime.
Overall, I really liked this book. The only thing I didn't like and made me give it 4 stars was that I felt like it ended too quickly. The ending took place several years later, and I feel like that one chapter could not sum up all of those years. I would still highly recommend this book to anyone.

This was a great MG book about a wrongful conviction! I really, really enjoyed the story and the characters! It would be a great addition to any classroom library grades 5 and up!

A completely safe read for middle grades, that is still able to introduce more serious topics related to social justice. A great lead character, who deals with all the normal problems teens face, but also is met with an extra challenge relevant to today’s society. Plus, an added sprinkle of cupcakes & baking.
