not quite as good as some others — lots of interesting stories and good lessons in here but i found myself growing frustrated at Doug’s narration at times and the position of privileges this discussion was coming from i felt a few times

I give this one 5 stars! Not for the writing, its is a book of conversations between the author and the subject. No, it deserves 5 stars for giving you a seat next to Jane Goodall as she explains through her life's experiences among people, animals and nature what hope means to her. At ninety years old she has learned a lot about survival and hard times. Through her insightful talks with Douglas Abrams, Jane gives us food for thought of this time in history. She talks of Covid, Global warming and the general unrest of the world in current times. The Book of Hope is a gift that looks at life in a no nonsense way and gives you reason to see a future for ourselves and our children along with our world. She makes you realize that even you can make a small difference. Her founding of the Roots and Shoots Programs to bring environmental, conservation and humanitarian awareness to our youth is a wonderful cause. It not only has lasting effects in the communities but helps build confidence that even they can make a change and are important to this world. The stories she tells are an array of fascinating, sad and beautiful tales that only she Jane Goodall, the world's most loved naturalist could tell.
I listened to this in audio and it's read by the author and Jane so you felt like you were sitting right next to them. Some of her thoughts were so provoking to me that I checked out the book also and decided I needed my own copy. I now have a personal copy that I can underline and highlight quotes to go back and reread when I need a ray of hope! I recommend this to anyone who loves Mother Nature, humanity as a whole and needs a reason to find a light at the end of this tunnel called life.

A beautiful and much-needed book to inspire hope in a world full of anxiety, despair and helplessness over climate change and the overall state of the world.

Told in a series of conversations between Jane and writer Douglas Abrams, Jane shares personal stories and photographs from her remarkable career as well as inspiring examples of people making positive impacts despite great odds and challenges.

At the core of the book is Jane’s “For reasons of hope”: The amazing human intellect, the resilience of nature, the power of young people and the indomitable human spirit. For each of these reasons Jane gives examples of why things aren’t quite so bleak as we often believe and that there are ways we as individuals can help make meaningful change.

I REALLY enjoyed listening to this book on audio that felt like listening in on a conversation between two good friends. Jane has lived such an incredible life and hearing how she still has hope for our future on this planet and beyond was supremely uplifting. HIGHLY recommended! Much thanks to Celadon Books for my advance review copy!
