I’d give this book more stars if I could. I loved the style of the book and everything Goodall had to say. I’m so fascinated and inspired by her.
I really enjoyed listening to Jane Goodall speak about her life and philosophies
This was definitely a needed read, for me at least, at this time. So much to worry about. So much to consider and sometimes it seems so overwhelming.
But Goodall's calm, reasoned, considered responses to the interview questions that became this book and the format it is written in bring the reader into her world. You can see the beautiful trees outside, feel the quiet hush of water flowing in a nearby brook. You can feel what worries Jane, too, and observe as she works through it with patient persistence.
Jane describes her five reasons for believing that we will survive as a species and the planet will recover and thrive, in spite of everything that is going on with climate change and desperate conditions everywhere. They are logical and make a lot of sense, and will give you a lot of food for thought.
Highly recommended for everyone who cares about the planet. It will give you renewed hope, which is what we all need right now. And it will show that like little drops of water that eventually wear down whole mountains, it's our collective actions that will save this planet.

I hate giving this book only 2 stars, because Jane is a treasure and whenever she was given the word it's a 5 star rating no question. But with Abrams drawn-out ramblings, mindless repeatings of what Jane literally just said, and interview questions that not only seemed like he was trying to put words in Jane's mouth but felt downright patronizing at times, I was tempted to rate it even lower. I will definitely pick up the books Jane has written herself and stay far away from anything by Abrams in the future.
This book was full of hope, knowledge, and tangible examples of how individuals can make significant change with their choices. Jane shares about her experiences as a naturalist and a willingness to take risks in order to create change. Jane highlights how many of the problems are not black and white but rather require empathy, context, and an understanding of how humanity is connected within the web of life. She discusses the power of connection and how young people and elders across the globe have made change even in the midst of challenging circumstances including war, loss of employment, and deforestation and climate change. Jane’s hope is predicated on the belief that if we are willing to make changes that we can create a future that honors our youth and future generations. I highly recommend this work as a book that leaves you challenged to take action, but also reminds you of the power you have as an individual, particularly when you are willing to connect, collaborate, and walk alongside others.

Well - it worked. I feel much much better after reading this and definitely recognise a kind of hope in me that I've lacked for a couple of time.
However, I have to say, there were some points that disturbed me a bit. I found it strange that almost every single "great person" mentioned was a man. And Winston Churchill was often called a big hero of Jane's, when he's definitely said some very very problematic - if not racist - things.

Does what it says on the cover, but does it well. A really nuanced look at our current environmental situation.
