How is Blue gonna literally be like “I’m really Into you and I’m attracted to you, might even love you and I know you love me too but I rather prioritize the homophobic NFL than prioritize you” and then when Kelly says he needs space away from him after that toxic bullshit Blue acts like Kelly is in the wrong for “throwing away their friendship” like pretty sure that was Blue when he used Kelly to experiment while drunk and constantly Minimized Kelly’s concerns! And never respecting Kelly’s need for space when trying to get over him!
Also Kelly’s sister also somehow made everything Lellys fault when it came to blue? She was so annoying!
Not to Mention Blues POV in unbearable because he has the grosses straight dude thoughts that is so just so uninteresting! And for someone who constantly talks about Kelly and how much he means to him he sure does treat him like shit!
And yet the narrative the author is trying to pull is that Kelly is somehow in the wrong? I truly don’t get how
The whole book seems to cater to Blues needs and only Blues needs and fuck Kelly he gets the scraps Blue is willing to toss at him!
Oh and if Blues POV isn’t bad enough in terms of how he talks about women and how he flip flops about Kelly and his bs heteronormativity ideas we actually are forced to go through boring football jargon and plot points
Kelly deserves a hell of a lot better than Blue, and his family is annoying
I was going to DNF but I knew I’d keep wondering if I didn’t finish it and it did not get better at all (it wasn’t even interesting)

This is a super frustrating book to read, but it’s hard to articulate exactly why. The relationship itself was cute and felt somewhat realistic (at least, the ribbing and banter between friends), but there was just so much miscommunication and, maybe, emotional blackmail? It’s not exactly that, but something similar. There’s a lot of toying with one another and unhealthy boundaries being set up, which feels like a bad way to start a romantic relationship.

I liked the story, but thought Blue was a bit annoying:)

I so desperately want to give this a higher rating but I was just so angry through so much of it that I can't justify anything higher. If from about 65% to about 85% were cut out, I'd probably give this 3.5 or 3.75 stars. The number one thing that bothered me was that from about 70% to about 88% I was just flat out angry at Blue. I found him to be it so heartless, manipulative, and controlling. Multiple times he undermines Kelly as an autonomous, fully capable person but also undermines his feelings to his face and never once does he apologize for it. He doesn't seem to care about how much hes hurting Kelly but then wants to keep Kelly as a pet or a trophy all the same.
Kelly stuck up for himself a few times and every single time I was praising him and then in the chapter, sometimes sooner, he'd go back on it and we were in the exact same position all over again.
The other things that bothered me were 1) of course one of the main characters had to have gray eyes despite the fact that having gray eyes is such a rare genetic trait that only about 3% of the world's population has. But of course Kelly just happens to have them like every other main character in a romance book ever. And 2) I'm almost positive that not a single time does this book call a fully grown adult woman woman. Everybody all the time says girl and it's ridiculous. These are full grown autonomous adults having sex with fully autonomous capable adult men and the author is still calling them girls as if they're children.
