I FINALLY KNOW WHAT "THE BUNK" MEANS! Aside from that, "Red Harvest" was fantastic--a crime noir novel well before its time. The story is at times hard to follow but is well worth picking up for Hammett's writing. So good.

A not-bad effort by the spouse of Lillian Hellman.

An unnamed detective is set on cleaning up a corrupt town, no matter the body count.

DNF. Dated language, hard to follow.

Potent language with short declarative statements save for a wonderful turn 3/4ths of the way through the book when an ice pick in a hand flips everything upside down.

Really does function as a serialized novel that feels like four distinct tangential parts than a cohesive whole.
