It was so interesting to read Sanderson's first Cosmere novel! He's really come a long way since then but Elantris does still have good bones and a sprinkle of the magic dust that later Cosmere books are full to the brim with. 

Here's some random thoughts:

• I loved learning about the magic system
  but wished they had figured it out sooner so they could experiment with it more. Shuden pulled out his super speed in the final fight too and even the creepy twisted bone monks could have come into it sooner! It felt like all the magical stuff was just thrown at you in the eleventh hour.
• Sarene's character was a highlight! Feels like the blueprint for Jasnah in some ways.
• I actually loved the
  wee romance between Raoden and Sarene which I didn't expect 🥹 Lots of cute moments.
   
• I'm now very excited to go back through the Cosmere books I've read to spot signs of Elantris!!

Pretty good, but definitely can tell it's Sanderson's FIRST book, it's lacking a lot of the nuance he usually has and is clumsy in it's writing, a lot more telling than showing happening too
