I absolutely loved this book and was impressed to learn it was Richardson’s debut novel. It is so rare to find a plus sized character that isn’t “woe is me” and I loved Richardson’s approach to Ari and her love life. 5 stars for the plot, storyline, and representation ♥️

<strong>so amazing </strong>
Stumbled upon this book and it looked like something I might enjoy and but was I right. Ari’s character was super relatable. The adversity she faced are things many see in their day to day so to see her face them and own each one was beautiful to read. And OMG Porter that’s one man I wish could walk off the pages lol.

3.5 ⭐️ The Build Up is an appropriate title for this book for sure!
Porter Harrison was checking for Ari James from the beginning! I loved how this book opened up & their meeting for the first time! Ari was definitely a proud woman & because she had to be tough, she didn’t know how to accept love. Porter was a man that was in tune with his feelings & he was very patient. All of that was heightened when it came to Ari. I loved how they built a relationship off of a solid friendship!
Riddle definitely shocked me when it was revealed the type of person he was at the end of the book! Robinson and Greer basically got paid to clown! That’s all the 2 of them did this entire book. I’m surprised it took Porter so long to give Greer what he deserved! I loved Doris (she was the funniest), Eloise, Desmond, Todd (even through his battles), Bella, & the twins!
I kind of knew what was going to happen toward the end with the job situation. It’s still sickening how jobs such as architecture is such a “boys club,” still to this day. Women still not being accepted in certain spaces, is wild! Nonetheless, this book was very well written, the characters were very well developed, and I enjoyed it

Complicated
⭐ Relatability and representation of Ari's character
⭐ ⭐ Porter - does he exist in the real world? If so, I want one. Extra star for being a Saints ⚜ and hating the Dirty Birds.
⭐ Their love story and the very real issues dealt with in the book. (Being the only and othered in corporate America, colorism, weight bias)
