What a great book. Characters are built with a lot of depth, with dreams, beliefs, hopes and fears. The Viking world is brought to life in a natural, smooth manner. Battles, as always, can almost be envisioned through Cornwell's descriptive prowess.

When I remember I spent hours reading that godforsaken Angus instead of this, I just want to jump off a cliff...

Вторият прочит е точно толкова добър, колкото и първият.

This was one of the cases where the TV adaptation turned out to be better than the original book. It was still a very pleasant read, but it would have benefited from more brevity and cohesion.

A fun little romp through pre Norman England, with a compelling, driven POV who is English but sometimes Danish, but most of all just loves to seize life by the horns. There are a few historical liberties taken for the sake of the narrative but overall it captures well the high stakes, high tension and, bleak time in England's history.

As someone who is a big fan of history I really enjoyed this story. It was extremely well written and I liked the narration. The action scenes were well done as well. Plus the historical accuracy adds on to the plot
