This just wasn’t for me. The story was fine, a solid 3 stars, but I really did not enjoy format of this book.

A cleverly constructed story that pulls you along bite by bite. It leaves you thinking of the stories, true and fictional, that could be repackaged.

Beautifully written but almost too polished. I wish it was a bit rougher and not so crystalline, all sharp angles and perfect edges.

Immense craft and care went into writing this but it reminds me of those pictures, autostereograms, where once you stare at it long enough, blurry at first, a three-dimensional image is revealed in its place.

I never could quite master the technique to fully appreciate the art and I think that’s what’s happened here.

Still enjoyed it, though.

This was an incredibly gentle, compelling novel. About memory, about identity about belonging. About the indiscriminate blending of strength and melancholia, and how the stories we tell, about ourselves and about others, create our experiences of reality more than they reflect them. “From a certain distance, the catastrophic must be indistinguishable from the sublime.”

A bit difficult to follow at times, the multimedia aspect really helps the narrative here. I loved the film parts!

My friend lent me this book saying "you prefer character driven books to plot drive ones, right?" (She was right.) I went into this book really having no clue what it would be about and really ended up enjoying the interesting way this novel is both laid out structurally and also how the two main characters communicate. It was haunting and tender and felt like a great read for pride month!
