3.65 AVERAGE

2.5 stars. I kept reading it and thinking, wait, is this what this book is about? The description that accompanies it here leaves out a whole bunch of stuff that, had it been included, I probably wouldn't have selected the book! I have read other books by this author that I really enjoyed. Not this one so much.

Spoilers ahead.

Mimi is a teacher at a highly regarded prep school in NYC, and she's in love with a fellow teacher and they make out a lot in closets at the school. (?!?!) They're working on the school musical together. He proposes and suddenly his ex-wife is in an accident, and he decides to leave NYC for New Haven to care for her in recovery and to comfort his adult daughters. Mimi finishes the play and is randomly fired the next day and then moves to New Haven at her supposed fiancé's request though he tells her repeatedly to not get involved with his family. It's all pretty bizarre. She has an apartment that's above a daycare co-op that she eventually ends up running, finding that she loves these kids and their parents. Oh, and she has a psychic and believes in magic skirts. Oh, and she does end up getting involved with the fiancé's family and they seem okay with her? But he is still putting her off. Her relationship with fiancé is not believable and it makes her actions and decisions absolutely bonkers. There was so much about the running of the daycare included that just seemed weird.

I was pleasantly surprised over how much I loved this book! I randomly downloaded it off of kindle unlimited and didn’t have super high expectations. I was taken by the unique storyline and endearing characters, especially Mimi and Jamie together. the ending wrapped everything up beautifully. Definitely in my top 10 of 2024!

This book was so cute and sweet. It felt a bit long, and I feel like some bits in the middle could have been left out, but I still enjoyed it. I laughed throughout the entire thing.

Mimi was deeply annoying

I enjoyed the first part of the book but about half way through it started to drag on. There were times I wanted to shake Mimi and tell him her to wake up! Stop being so dependent.

This book was a disaster. My official rating is 1.5 stars, but I'll round it up to two.

The main character(s) are SO naive and annoying. The second romance comes out of NOWHERE with absolutely no buildup. The daycare stuff is weird. The book was way too long for the story it was telling. The main character is also just weird, and not in a way that is quirky and fun, but rather in a way that's making me question if she's sane. Ohh, and the casual cheating that doesn't even get acknowledged? Not a fan.

This book reminded me that settling for less than what you deserve is a ridiculous thing to do. The more you go along with it the more unhappy you will be. Mimi knew exactly what she deserved and I’m happy. She got that at the end of the story.

Mimi wasn’t patient enough

The character was not patient and was forcing a shoe to fit despite it being the wrong size. REN was a terrible person no matter how much I tried to like him. His daughter’s attitude towards Mimi further made me dislike him. In the end Mimi finally woke up and got her fairytale ending! What a ride!!!
