I recently went to Jane Austen’s house, and I took it as a sign that I should read some of her unfinished works.

Sanditon by Jane Austen is a compilation of three of her unfinished works: Sanditon, The Watsons, and Lady Susan. I’m not going to provide a synopsis for each one just for the sake of space, but I will say that The Watsons was by far my favorite of these stories. I loved how the characters were so lively and engaging. The pacing was good, and I liked how cheerful the characters are. I felt disappointed when I got to the end of the fragment and realized there was no more left; I really wish Jane Austen would’ve died after she finished the work haha! I thought the other two stories were just fine, though slightly underwhelming. Overall, it was a nice airport read.

It's a pity Jane Austen couldn't finish this novel. It seems so promising! It got my whole attention from the first chapter. Peculiar, interesting and amusing characters along with that splendid coast.

I liked it. I enjoyed the plot and the introduction to the characters. I loved Charlotte and Sidney and appreciated what they did in making Sidney a bit more silly and fun-natured than he was in the adaptation.

My only critique was that I felt like it dragged a bit in some parts and there were a lot descriptions about Sanditon the town which bored me. I also wish there was more background given on the Raynors earlier in the book because when they were introduced towards the end, it seemed like a massive info dump to explain the big reveal about who a certain character was.

Overall, I would read it again and plan to. It took me wayyyy too long to read this book. 4 months is crazy!
