I understand this book takes on a difficult topic, but it absolutely should not be marketed as a romance novel. The absolutely atrocious amount of details of the abuse was very unnecessary and didn't bring anything of value to the book. The warnings should be much more drastic, and the plot description should reflect the severety of the DETAILED abuse. I had to skip majority of the second quarter of it because the descriptions made me sick. I doubt anyone starting this book was expecting to read scenes where FMCs boyfriend brutally violates and physically abuses her. Repeatedly. Also the way the book just absolutely skips over abortion being a viable possibility for the FMC enraged me. She didn't love him, she didn't want to have a baby, they weren't even married and she already knew she would be dependant on him. Abortion is motioned in one sentence. Honestly tragic.

This novel tells a story that, unfortunately, is a reality for so many women.
It was emotive and captivating. One minute I was pumping my first into the air with such joy and pride for the FMC, then I was gripped with terror and apprehension, was crying at the trauma she was exposed to and how this is truth for some.
It is a difficult read, very graphic in some parts, but this adds to the story and really gets you to reflect though it is fiction, this is more than just a story.
The author has written this novel in such a way that even though some of the chapters were difficult to read and digest (due to the nature, not the writing). I wanted to, NEEDED to keep reading, to find out if the FMC had a HEA.
I would definitely recommend Long Shot, but please check trigger warnings as the themes in this book may be triggering for many.

I typically don’t go into books knowing what to expect because I read them based on covers or recommendations so the DV in this book was shocking and incredibly graphic. But I felt so many emotions and I loved the MCs. I loved the description of iris’s new orleanean history,
her relationship with Lotus, how she learned from her mistakes. And I loved how gentle August was with her throughout and also learned from his mistakes. I don’t like the miscommunication trope, and appreciate that Ryan didn’t ruin his development with it.
