This book was a total surprise. I thought this was just another silly little sports ronance where the MCs are just horny and boinking. This was so much more. And the audiobook was just *chefs kiss*. Sean Cristen and Jo Raylan are so good in conveying the emotions of each MC. This quickly became one of my favourite books.
The FMC gets into a difficult situation, but i liked that she saves herself.

Wow, this was a tough, but good book. Kennedy Ryan’s writing is amazing at making you experience what the characters are feeling, both good and bad.

Let’s start off with the good feelings. I absolutely love August West! He was basically exactly what Iris needed exactly when she needed him. They were perfect together, once they were given their chance. I love how the ending talked about soulmates, because they are two characters that make me believe in that idea too. I also loved Iris, especially her character growth in the wake of the suffering she endured.

While this book has a lot of triggering content, I think Kennedy Ryan handled it very well. She brought to life the cruelty in this world, but also offered hope in the wake of that cruelty.

This was an introduction to Kennedy Ryan's prose and I am enamored by how she writes her characters and plot with such reverence.

This solidifies my belief that Kennedy Ryan has a real talent for writing love stories that are truly devastating (and I mean that as a compliment). Her books evoke such powerful emotion; they’re always memorable. Her characters (especially the women she writes) are nuanced, and read like real people with real flaws, but most importantly, with deep wells of strength.

This one is no different. Be gentle with yourself and do not read this book if you are triggered by graphic depictions of domestic violence, physical, and/or sexual abuse. There are multiple instance of r*pe on page.

I loved August and how he loved Iris, and that was the only thing I liked about this book. I think the trigger warnings needed to be emphasized more at the beginning because this was intense with
domestic, sexual abuse and rape
. I could deal with a few scenes of the physical, but one scene (if that) was enough for
when Caleb raped Iris
Multiple scenes of that wasn’t necessary and the point could’ve been made without all of them.
