Pretty pictures but all with the same basic color scheme and style.

I love Joanna and I will keep the book because I do but it was not what I was expecting...

"The joy in design is the challenge and gratification of creating a space that feels like home every moment that you spend within its walls." pg 209

Picked this up for a great price at Anthropologie back in the summer and just got around to reading it as I'm looking for inspiration for our new home. I appreciated the commentary throughout the book that gives the reader insight into her design choices. I wouldn't say that my own style completely lines up with hers, but I do feel similarly about the purpose and function of a home and found many great ideas to incorporate in my home.

So, one caveat about recommending this book - if you are a color person, move on. This one isn't for you. Her style foundation is the black/white look and even when she adds color, it's almost always a neutral that blends in well with the other black and white components of a room. It got a bit much for me and I'm a fan of B/W myself. FYI.

If it’s by Joanna, I probably love it. This is a gorgeous book filled with inspiring photos and practical advice!

If you've ever seen Fixer Upper, then you know everything that's in this book. I was a touch disappointed to see that it's all pretty generic design advice and there's (of course) no consideration put into the fact that some people have homes that don't have foyers or play spaces exclusively dedicated to children. Then again, Fixer Upper isn't exactly for us commoners with regular houses lol. The photos are cool, but they're also pretty standard, run-of-mill shots of what you see on Fixer Upper in every episode. Not sure what I was expecting.

Pretty inspiration images like you’d find on Pinterest, but nothing truly life-changing. I find her style often too cluttered for my taste, but it was a fun browse.

Really pretty & inspiring pictures, and has some great thoughts for how to approach things in your own home. But I ultimately felt like everything would be out of my budget and just made me feel crappy about our house, which probably wasn’t the intent?

I actually started reading this awhile ago but never put it up here on Goodreads. It is a wonderful look at how Joanna Gaines designs.

I would recommend this book if you are looking to design a house and want to use some of her designs. It even includes design templates in the back that you can use to create your design. She even provides an example of how she uses this design template.

Again a wonderful look at her designs.

Love how Joanna decorates with books. Books are my peace. I also liked the recommendations through out the book.
