If you're a fan of Goodfellas (as I am), reading this original version of the true story of Henry Hill you'll see that the movie was a faithful adaptation. If anything the book version just gives you more juicy details. So entertaining! This is one of those books you can blow through in a day.

I was hoping this book would add some depth to the movie Goodfellas which was based off of this work, but instead I came to see that the film was almost completely faithful to the book as an adaptation. The story itself is good enough for a four but I would have liked to have had some more to it to honestly feel like it earned.

Great audiobook, but I wish I realized I had the abridged version! Would’ve loved to listen to the full version, but my library apparently doesn’t have it. Might just need to read the actual book one day ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
4.75 stars.
What can I say about this classic that hadn’t been said? Well if you love the movie Goodfellas, you’ll definitely love this book. It dives deeper on Henry Hill’s life and the schemes he did all his life as a Wise Guy. I watched Goodfellas because in most recommendation list for mafia movies, it comes second right after The Godfather, which is my ultimate favorite, so I had to watch Goodfellas and read Wise Guy. It is very different from The Godfather, or any other typical mafia book, where loyalty and brotherhood is praised, Wise Guy is about self-interest and survived on your own. It really shows how messed up the crime world is. The writing is great and the different perspectives also make the story very engaging and unputdownable.

honestly so good. the way that the author uses long stretches of uninterrupted interview quotes really brings you into the world. the language and slang and routines all became so familiar to me because of these interview quotes. it was nice how towards the end, he used quotes from multiple people aside from Henry, like his wife, the FBI agent investigating, other people. i still technically have 6 pages left but to me that means i'm done pretty much #yolo
anyways definitely don't read this if you're not okay with violence but if you're interested in a biography that literally inspired Goodfellas definitely check it out. peace
