honestly so good. the way that the author uses long stretches of uninterrupted interview quotes really brings you into the world. the language and slang and routines all became so familiar to me because of these interview quotes. it was nice how towards the end, he used quotes from multiple people aside from Henry, like his wife, the FBI agent investigating, other people. i still technically have 6 pages left but to me that means i'm done pretty much #yolo
anyways definitely don't read this if you're not okay with violence but if you're interested in a biography that literally inspired Goodfellas definitely check it out. peace

Very rarely (maybe only once before) do I say this, but you don't need to read this book.
It is a very good book. It's written in a straightforward way, but it's not dry. The facts are laid out for you, in simple terms with no bullshit, and in the words of Henry Hill and his wife and a few other key players. It's ridiculously easy to follow, and it will keep your attention.
But.
For possibly the first time ever, I've found a movie that holds true to the book precisely. Goodfellas follows this book brilliantly. Not one detail left out, including some little bits that you don't even pay attention to in the movie until you read it again in the book. I was ridiculously pleased by this, being the snob I am about books vs movies.
But seriously, you don't need to read the book. It's a nice companion, if you like to read like I do and want to find differences. But there really aren't any. Very nicely done, Hollywood. For a change.
Oh, and this was on my "Owned" shelf until after I read it. There's a reason the library put "discard" on it for the sale. I'm lucky it stayed together as long as it did.

Interesting read about a world I previously had little insight into.

This book definitely satisfied my "mafia book" craving, but it wasn't earth-shattering or anything. I would read it again though! Its one of those books that I would classify as "not that deep". It's an entertaining book, and if you like mafia stories (a true story is always more enticing) you'll like this one. Guaranteed.
