This book has such important and powerful messages but I don't think I loved it as much as I wished, I think I just liked it. 3.5 rounded down.
Coupled with beautiful artwork by Emily Carroll, this story tackles the heavy subject of assault and the aftermath of such an act, including social stigma and depression. Even though the story was written in the 90s, it is still terrible relevant nowadays.
I have never read the novel but thought I would read the graphic novel. It was amazing! I loved the story and how it was written. the only thing I could say about it is that it seemed to be chapters but it was kind of choppy.

I read this book so much when I was younger and getting to see it expressed in graphic novel form when art is central to Melinda's story drew me right back in. Melinda's story resonates with so many people for many different reasons. I think speak is a novel everyone needs to read in their life at least once.
Rape is such a hard topic to both write about and to consume as a reader. This was so well written though, and made me feel so much for Melinda. The art was amazing as well. I couldn't put this graphic novel down, and read it in one sitting.
heart - rending and lyrical, sad and powerful. I haven't read the book, but the artistry and stark black and white imagery is emotive, but simple enough for the reader to slip into the personas and action.
I did cry, but the tears were cleansing. highly recommended

Reading the graphic novel version was just as powerful as reading the original. The illustrations were perfect.
