Honestly, I have no words to capture what I am feeling right now.
All you need to know is that Speak is an incredibly powerful and moving story which deserves to be read by all. I am covered in goosebumps!

After months of this graphic novel sitting on my shelf and waiting to be read, I finally read it in one sitting. This heartbreaking story about a rape victim coming to terms with her situation and opening up to the people in her life will have you in tears. To anyone who has survived such horrific trauma, the aftermath can be just as painful as the act itself and Speak highlights that aspect. I highly recommend this graphic novel to anyone and everyone. Just be sure to look up the trigger warnings and proceed at your own caution
A beautifully written and illustrated book about such a heavy topic. Speak encapsulates the nitty gritty of high school from toxic friendships, failing parents, racism, and sexual assult in a way that feels realistic but still engaging. The black and white hints to the grave tone of the book while still delivering pristine quality and detail.
Gorgeous adaptation and shows just how timeless and necessary this story is year after year.
This novel from the 1990s lends itself so well to the graphic novel format. This was a painful story to read. To see the accompanying images was brutal. It is so important for us to normalize speaking up when you have been wronged, whether it be sexual assault or any other type of abuse. A moving and heartbreaking story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The artist and imagery give this story far more impact than the original novel. The adaptation is skillful, and lends itself well to the medium. I'd highly recommend for anyone who was touched by the original novel. It will leave you speechless.
Picked this up because of Emily Carroll, whom I adore. Now that I read the synopsis, I think I'm going to have a hard time putting this one down.

It's taken me a few days to digest this work. I had never heard of Speak before so I didn't get the chance to read the novel. I'm glad for that because, as powerful as that book probably is, this graphic novel is equal or surpasses the novel.
I love Emily Carroll's work. I even bought Through the Woods because I found myself wanting to read it over and over again. She does not disappoint at all with the illustrations done here. I'm so glad I had that visual to go along with the story.
The story itself is good although very traumatic. In fact, I read somewhere that it is actually a trauma narrative, a term I'm not sure I have heard before. But it definitely describes the story.
If you like Carroll or Anderson and you want to read/view a book about self-discovery, I highly recommend this graphic novel. My only complaint is that it ended.

I've not read the prose novel, which came first. But I thoroughly enjoyed this adaptation.
