This book. I think it’s going to be in my top 5 all time favorites. Ever. Not even because of Sophia and Luke, but because of Ira and Ruth’s love story. I found myself eager to read more of Ira while he was trapped in the car because that’s where I learned of the utmost love and devotion he had for his wife, Ruth. I know it’s only a story and fiction, but I can only imagine what having that kind of love would be like. It’s kind of insane. And ugh, all of the artwork discussed in this book was so impressive. I think i would have been struck more by the ending if I hadn’t seen the movie first a couple of years ago, but that doesn’t mean it was any less powerful. It was Ira’s final act to show the world that the paintings didn’t mean anything to him if Ruth wasn’t there to admire them. She was the one who provided their meanings and without her, they were just paintings that’s didn’t really carry any weight.
There’s also something to be said about Luke and Sophia’s story. The ease of their conversations and how quickly they got to know each other. I feel like these are things that are rare to happen, but when they do, you gotta hold on tight. It reminds me again of Ira and Ruth. Both different love stories, but the endings and meanings are the same. The person you love adds so much light to your life.
And the bull riding?!? Someone get me a fan. I have to admit, one of the draws to this book was the cowboy/bull riding aspect. I stayed for the characters and the message behind the cover though. There’s nothing quite like a love story set on a ranch in North Carolina. Sign me up for the next one please!! If there is any book of Nicholas Sparks that I recommend thus far, this would be my first choice. If that isn’t already clear by the length of my review. I need to own this book now, will be searching for it soon. READ THIS BOOK!

Okay most of the book was pretty insufferable. Like Sophia and Luke were kinda basic… The Ira chapters made me actually consider blowing my brains out. But the end had me gagged im sorry like yes I wanted to read a romance book like yes I wanted something else in there to spice it up. And that’s what I got! Did I wish forcing myself to read this so I could finish didn’t feel like punishment? Yes! But I was grinning like a schoolgirl with that ending idgaf!!!
I got this book as a gift from a former student, so I had to give it a shot. That being said, I must say that it should have been called The Longest Read. It was awful. That, and Nicholas Sparks has clearly never experienced a true snowstorm. The way he described the "treacherous" weather was laughable. Also, it just reaffirmed my hatred for the entire romance genre. It's so trite. I'd give it half a star if I could.
If I could read this book over and over again for the first time. I would.

I thought it was a nice love story but Ira's interaction throughout the book was extremely slow; his chapters seemed to drag on.
Before I read this one, A Walk to Remember was the only Sparks novel that made me cry. I keep reading his books because of having read them in high school, but I had started feeling like his novels were getting trite. The Longest Ride renewed my faith in him. I almost hated reading the story of Ira because it was so heart-wrenching, and I just lost my grandfather last month. However, the story is truly beautiful and gives the reader a "pay it forward" theme that is likely to touch your heart in an amazing way.
