Carl and Princess Donut are still fighting for their lives. but now they have a murder chicken pet named Mongo.

Upon entering the third floor Carl and Donut have chosen their race and classes. Of course Donut had to remain a cat, but with her new class they get to rope Mordecai into more of their shenanigans. They're spit out into the Over City an area that has been devastated by some mysterious event. But, that doesn't mean it will be easy going. Instead they have to survive an undead circus, figure out why its raining dead prostitutes, and really just try to survive.

Much like the first book in the series, Carl's Doomsday Scenario is hilarious and gory. I was constantly on the edge of my seat wondering who would live until the next page and laughing at the item and monster descriptions. Through the facade of comedy, DCC addresses the role of capitalism, oligarchies, and social media while exploring what it truly means to be human.

Another great read in the series! I usually prefer stand alone books, but I’m really enjoying the series so far. I really enjoyed the progression in the story and the continued world building. I loved getting some more insights into the world outside of the crawl and the political conflicts happening. I also enjoyed that some of the characters we saw in book 1, but didn’t meet, are becoming intertwined in Carl and Donut’s story. I am liking the slow burn of character introduction. The author has set up all of these interesting characters but instead of dumping them all in at once, is taking his time to really develop them and is weaving them in at the opportune time.

Princess Donut is still the star of the show for me. I like seeing her character progression and the little slips in her on camera persona to her deeper side.

I still have the same complaint about the author’s writing of women and would like to see more depth and prominently featured characters who are women, but I’m hopeful that’s coming with some of the characters being described but not yet introduced. My only other complaint is some of the battles seem too easy. Like Carl just convincing two enemies to get along by basically being like “don’t worry network, I have a secret plan”. I also think the reliance on explosives is a bit of a cop out to get him out of sticky situations.

But overall, I am fully invested into the story and really enjoyed the book. I can’t wait to see where the story goes next and how the next level will play out!

So much fun! Action packed, loveable characters, weird and ridiculous, I can only recommend this series if you love RPGs and have a weird humor. Book 2 in this series was especially great for my nerdy heart as we get so much background information on levels, classes, races, I totally would read a Player‘s Manual on this world.
Great second book and what an explosive ending! 4.5 stars.

absolutely awesome read as usual. I finished this book in a week which is a new record for me and am diving straight into the next book.
