Prachtig boek over Mary Shelley en Isabella Baxter waarin beiden elkaars complementaire zelf zijn. Over de donkere ziel en de verbeelding. Een echte Gothic Novel maar ook een coming of age. Prachtig geschreven. Maakt niet alles waar wat beloofd wordt (er wordt toegewerkt naar haar presentatie van haar boek Frankenstein, maar dat moment vindt niet plaats en de ware toedracht van de nogal occulte mr. Booth lijkt ook een storm in een glas water. Anders had ik dit mooie boek 5 sterren gegeven want het is een verslavend leesplezierboek.

One of the best books I have ever read and potentially the most beautifully written. This book is a lyrical dream, delightfully dark and gorgeously gothic. I wanted to devour every sentence. Anne Eekhout’s writing style, translated by Laura Watkinson, is everything I hope my writing might be one day. I am utterly enamoured with her prose.

An instant favourite and an incredible inspiration.
