Picked this up because it reminded me of childhood favorite The Boxcar Children (which I have not read in many years). Good but slow and a bit too serious. Not sure if I would have liked it more as a kid?

This is one of my favorite books of all time having been a childhood favorite. As an adult I found myself yearning to reread it. It was a beautiful reprint of it a few years ago and dip into it once in a while. It's a simple story but I just love how the children are resilient and creative. Meanwhile the adults (including their own parents) can barely be relied upon for anything. That such a thing really appeals to a child's imagination, but also their worst fears.
