This book is actually a collection of short stories/chapters that follows the adventures of the Pickwick Club as they head off to research life by travelling around England. The stories rely more on the characters than their adventures and there is much description of the places they go rather than what they do, which is interesting but not worth the many hundreds of pages that results. This Dickens' first work and it is certainly nowhere near his best but it does give an insight into Britain at the time and into Dickens' emerging talents. I think I would've enjoyed this more if I could relate to some of the characters but as this is based on the ol' boys club, this did prove a little difficult and some of them were just down right annoying which reduced my enjoyment somewhat. Not a bad read but not sure it is one I'll read again.

Definitivamente no es mi favorito de Dickens... Se ve la chispa de lo que el será como escritor en futuras obras, pero no me generó un interés continuo sobre los personajes y sus aventuras.

Leer este clásico en compañía ha sido una gran idea. Cada semana unos pocos capítulos en una LC organizada en telegram, y con aportaciones super interesantes sobre la cultura de la época, palabras concretas, las posadas que van apareciendo y otras maravillas. Lo he disfrutado más que si lo hubiera leído sola.
Algunos personajes son tan fascinantes que se han quedado en la cultura popular por si mismos. Aunque empieza con un club de caza acaba siendo una panda de amigos que viajan por Inglaterra con una curiosidad tan grande como sus torpezas, pero en general con buen humor todo se acaba solucionando.
No es el mejor Dickens pero sí es uno de los primeros y se nota cuando él empezó a tener más manga ancha para ir a su antojo en vez de seguir directrices editoriales mientras publicaba semana a semana sus cuartillas.

Wonderful! Such a charming, gentle, endearing tale that is most of all characterised by its humour. So many laugh out loud moments.
