A perfect lighthearted palette-cleanser. Please don’t take it seriously, this book is clearly just trying to be silly. The writing is not great and sometimes the grammar is just plain incorrect. But it’s fine. Have a sexy little brain melty moment.

Please read the TW's before reading this book.

Kimberly Lemming may have become my top tier author for spicy romantasy books. That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon was absolutely thrilling, engaging, hilarious, and of course more than 3nough spice to sink your teeth into. The way Cinnamon had me sweating one moment and cackling the next was truly remarkable. She is a strong badass woman who is extremely unapologetic. I feel like my only complaint was the male love interest Fallon. I felt he could have been quite a bit more progressive (while still holding on to that core strength and power) instead of being so misogynistic and alpha male. But at the end of the day the story was about Cinnamon and her journey, so I still thoroughly enjoyed it overall. If a spicy rom-com with some high octane adventure sounds intriguing to you, definitely get this book a try.

One thing to note (as a whole lot of 1-2 star reviews I've seen complained about) there is modern day vernacular in this book. I do not understand why people HAVE to force their preconceived notions of real world medieval vernacular onto fantasy worlds, but if that bothers you, you may not enjoy this book as much.

I'm being real generous wit this 3. Like real , real generous wit it. Now I'm a sucker for smut as much as the next person , but the pacing is all over the place , everyone's attitudes was WAYYY too positive and understanding from what was being described. This is definitely one of those stories you turn your brain off and just enjoy. I want to love this book , a fantasy romance with a black female lead is a great find , but I simply can not get past the dubcon.   If I'd fully understood what it meant before i checked it out I'm not sure I would've started. Is the story fast paced? Yes , but that's no excuse to not , at the bare minimum,  make the consent MUCH more vocal and obvious. Please don't leave the very first sexual interaction between the main couple so ambigious in consent of all things. Feelings? Fine & dandy , but never consent to touch someone.    This is a published story , not a Wattpad fanfiction.

At the very least , if you're gonna read try to find a physical copy. The cover art is BEAUTIFUL and what drew my attention in the first place.  Shoutout to Alexia E. Pereira and Mike Pape for the hard work on it.

When Cinnamon Hotpepper drunkenly saves a demon from a rockslide then smacks him in the face with a branch of cinnamon, she frees Fallon from the evil lich magic keeping him and other demons trapped as mindless rage monsters. The two set out on a quest to destroy four chalices that protect the lich from destruction. Their journey is made harder thanks to hundreds of years of convincing humans that she’s a goddess protecting them rather than an evil being serving only her best interests. Cin and Fallon gain allies across the land and sparks fly between the two as they try to save all of demonkind.

This monster romance is spicy and surprisingly violent while being super silly and altogether as Unserious as possible. I even did a dramatic reading of select passages for a coworker during our downtime. The romance built well and honestly, the only big minus for me was the weird dip into a city brimming with demon slavery. It felt like since most people seemed to join their side once they realized demons aren’t mindless killing machines, they could have done a little more talking and a little less map-erasing. They hurt you so I must burn this city to the ground only holds so much sway with me before I feel like… okay buddy, calm down. Also the ending scene felt repetitive to me. But other than that I really liked it and I think this flavor of monster romance that doesn’t take itself too seriously works for me. I will definitely read the rest of the series.

Also, bonus points for the detailed content warning from the author at the beginning.

What a fun book! I had heard of this author and her books previously but never had a chance to read them. I started following her on Threads and she revealed the new covers and I HAD to read the books. Let me tell you, this book was a lot of fun to read. It is funny, full of action (and cheese), and SEXY. This author knows how to write sex scenes in her books, enough to make someone who isn't used to reading them blush. I got through this book so quickly and I've already started the second book in the series.

Full transparency, the dialogue is a bit cringe at times and the first sexy scene came out of nowhere. But the rest of those scenes are right where they should be. The main character, Cinnamon, is HILARIOUS, has a love of cheese and mead and I fell in love with her. The demon she saves made me seriously think about walking into the woods on purpose to find my own. The action scenes were pretty damn good, as well.

A fun quick read with quite a bit of spice (hah pun unintended). The fact that characters in a medeivalesque fantasy world with totally different countries speak and eat exactly like modern Americans is a bit off-putting at first, but once you  mentally file that under “strange but let’s go with it” it becomes rather amusing. The romance is rather abrupt and fast, and everyone in the story sheds their deep-seated prejudices and beliefs remarkably fast, but in a way that’s sort of refreshing. The book is sort of a parody of a lot of epic high fantasy and its common tropes and motifs. So basically - suspend your disbelief and strap in for a bonkers but hilarious ride!
